In
today’s extremely competitive scenario, we all are under constant stress and
pressure to excel in our chosen fields. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull
boy”. Sometimes we all need to indulge ourselves in some activities which we
love doing. And in that context all of us love games. Not necessarily playing
but even watching a game is total fun. After all we all deserve to enjoy and
have fun in our childlike way.
The
definition of game in a rather technical way is something which says that game
is a structured activity usually undertaken for enjoyment and games ate
distinct from work which is usually carried out for remuneration and from art
which is more concerned with the expression of ideas. However the distinction
is not clear-cut and many games are also considered to be work (such as
professional players of spectator sports/games) or art (such as jigsaw puzzles
or games involving an artistic-layout) such as mahjong solitaire. Key
components of games ate goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. Games
generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games
help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise
perform an educational, stimulation or psychological role.
I
like playing and watching all kinds of games, be it in-door or out door. That
certainly does not matter to me much. I feel the enjoyment that I derive after
indulging myself in such activities. It rejuvenates me completely. Since my
childhood I have always loved playing games with my friends and siblings. Not a
very professional way or otherwise.
Many
of us believe a game to be an expert’s job, but that is not true. Even playing
or associating yourself in games, in some or the other way, is a great source
of entertainment, excitement and education. When we watch professional players
who play game of any kind, we get to learn the nuances of the game played and
also apply some of the adopted strategy in dealing with real life problems.
What actually matters is what we learn. Many kids, today in play schools and
also in primary or secondary sections, play games, because according to
researchers, games help develop one’s mind and are a great source of entertainment
and exercise. They prove to be excellent educational tools as well. They help
us in physical growth and also stimulate our mind. Not only schools or
colleges, but also many reputed universities and organizations conduct
management games for their employees to improve their performance and have
their administration skills honed.
I
particularly like games because I have never been able to involve myself in
them in a professional way. So, I have always had that curiosity to learn more
about them. In fact, it is the urge to learn that further attracts my attention
towards games. There is normally a preconceived notion in the mind of people in
terms of games, wherein they assume them to be played either by children or by
professional players. But, there is no such hard and fast rule. I always
believe that even by watching games of any kind, we get to learn a lot of
things, in terms of strategy, planning, implementation etc. that the players
adopt.
Usually
it is only till we are young or may be till we are school going kids, we play
games. But after a point of time, may be due to societal pressures, personal
and professional obligations or due to embarrassment, we tend to disassociate
ourselves and neglect the importance of games. But nowadays, I can see a marked
change in the attitude of the people in terms of their association with the
games. Many play various games during their leisure time with utmost excitement
and curiosity.
The
ultimate conclusion that we can draw from games in either of the way- by playing
or watching is its productive value. So, I strongly feel that whenever we feel
left out or are completely taxed, we need to just forget ourselves for some
times and have fun by playing games. This will bring back our old memories and
make us nostalgic for a moment because, we all have a little kid hidden inside
us.
