1 Use
a Computer. Optimum use of modern PC with the latest software can
double, triple or even quadruple the output.
2 Do
not be a Perfectionist. Be
a careful, sincere and hardworking but do not agonize over your work beyond the
point where the extra effort no longer produces a proportionately worthwhile
improvement in the final product. But that never means that you deliberately
make errors or give less than your best.
3 Free
Yourselves from the Pressure to be an Innovator. Do not feel pressured to reinvent the wheel
or create a masterpiece on every project you take on. Don’t be held up by the
false notion that you must uncover some great truth or present your boss with
revolutionary ideas and concepts. Most successful service jobs and their
solutions are just commonsense packaged to meet specific need.
4 Switch
Back and Forth between different Tasks. Arrange daily schedule so that
you switch off from one assignment to another at least once or twice each day.
It will inject variety into the schedule.
5 Do
not Waste Time Working on Projects you do not have it. Do not waste time starting the work for
projects that you may not come to fruition. Should proceed with full speed,
confidence and enthusiasm that come from knowing that you have been given the
green light.
6 Make
Deadlines Firm but Adequate.
Productive people set and meet deadlines. Without a deadline the
motivation to do a task is small to non-existent, and the job goes
automatically to the bottom of priority list. Having a specific date and time
for completion eliminates confusion and gives motivation to get the work done
on time. At the same time, do not make
deadline too tight. Try to build in a few extra days for the unexpected last
minute change or a crisis.
7 Protect
and Value your Time. Productive
people guard their time more heavily than the gold. They do not waste time.
They get right to the point. They come off as abrupt or dismissive to some
people. They make decisions. They say what needs to be said. Do what needs to be done and then move on.
Most busy and successful people I have heard and read are aware of the
relentless pressure of time. They divide their days into hourly increments and
spend them more carefully.
8 Stay
Focused. As Robert Ringer, the
best selling author of ‘Looking out for # 1’
observes that successful people apply themselves to the task at hand .
They work until the work gets done. They concentrate on one or two things at a
time. They do not go in a hundred different directions. Effective people have a
vision and focus their activities to achieve that vision.
9 Set
a Production Goal. An individual who truly wants to be productive and
time conscious sets a production goal, meets it and he is proud of his
accomplishment and his efficiency. My definition of a productive, efficient
person is someone who can do in a day what others take a week to accomplish.
10 Do
Work you Enjoy. When you enjoy
your work, it really is not work. To me success is being able to make a good
living while spending the workdays in pleasurable tasks. One does not love
every project equally, of course. But try to balance ‘must do’ mandatory tasks
with things that are more fun for you. Seek assignments that are exciting,
interesting and fulfilling therefore enjoy your achievements as well as your
plans.
